Honoring World War II Veterans on D-Day's 79th Anniversary.

Normandy commemorates the 79th anniversary of D-Day, the largest naval, air, and land operation in history, which led to the liberation of France and Western Europe from Nazi control. World War II veterans and officials paid tribute to the young soldiers who died in Normandy, while also reminding visitors of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, home to the graves of 9,386 U.S. soldiers, held a ceremony attended by U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Gen. Mark Milley. French President Emmanuel Macron attended a separate ceremony in the presence of the last surviving member of the Kieffer commando.
