Tariff pledge sparks Colombia’s accusation of Ecuador meddling in its election

Colombia’s foreign ministry accused Ecuador’s president Daniel Noboa of deliberate interference in its upcoming election after he promised to lift tariffs on Colombian goods and coordinate on security with a candidate, Abelardo de la Espriella. Noboa framed the talks as with an administration-in-waiting and said tariffs would end on June 1; Ecuador had begun imposing tariffs since January over border issues. Colombia rejected the move as meddling and a violation of sovereignty amid a highly polarized race and ongoing security concerns in the region.
