Western-style diets may speed up attention decline in APOE ε4 carriers, study suggests

A long-term Australian study (Western Australia Memory Study) suggests Western dietary patterns may be linked to faster attention decline in older adults who carry the APOE ε4 allele, though sensitivity analyses render the association uncertain. The analysis followed 185 participants with repeated cognitive testing over up to 90 months and identified dietary patterns (Western vs Prudent) using PCA, adjusting for age, sex, education, BMI, energy intake, and APOE status with false discovery rate correction; however, the result did not remain robust across all analyses.
