Former Rwandan Doctor Sentenced to 24 Years in France for Role in 1994 Genocide

Former Rwandan doctor Sosthene Munyemana has been sentenced to 24 years in prison by a French court for his role in the 1994 genocide of Tutsis. Munyemana was found guilty of genocide, crimes against humanity, and participation in a conspiracy to prepare these crimes. He was accused of drafting a letter of support for the interim government that encouraged the massacre of Tutsis, setting up roadblocks to round people up, and keeping them in inhumane conditions before their killings. This is the sixth trial in France related to the Rwandan genocide, and Rwanda has accused France of being unwilling to extradite genocide suspects or bring them to justice.
