Mirren addresses Taormina Film Fest after viral 'evil Zionist' moment

At the Taormina Film Fest in Sicily, Helen Mirren spoke out about Israel in her first public remarks since a viral video in which a stranger accused her of being an “evil Zionist.” She praised Israel’s creative community, acknowledged the complexities of its founding and leadership, and said she believes in Israel’s existence and future while condemning crimes against humanity. Mirren described the viral incident as likely an attack by someone unstable, and while police considered the possibility of an antisemitic hate crime, Mirren and her husband declined to press charges.
