"California Man Arrested for Smuggling Greenhouse Gases into U.S."

A California man, Michael Hart, has been arrested and charged with smuggling greenhouse gases, specifically hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), across the U.S.-Mexico border in violation of a 2020 law aimed at phasing out potent greenhouse gases. Hart allegedly purchased the gases in Mexico, transported them concealed in his truck, and sold them online. This marks the first criminal case for illegal smuggling of HFCs, signaling a crackdown on the illicit trade of these climate super-pollutants. The case highlights the need for stronger enforcement to prevent the illegal importation of substances that contribute to global warming and ozone depletion.
