Star Wars Turns 50 with IMAX 70mm Reissues for the Original and Starfighter
Lucasfilm and Disney will celebrate Star Wars’ 50th anniversary with a two-part IMAX release: Star Wars (1977) will debut in IMAX (digital or 70mm) with a restored version hitting select IMAX 70mm locations on February 19, 2027; followed by Star Wars: Starfighter, filmed for IMAX and converted to IMAX 70mm, opening May 28, 2027 in a limited number of IMAX theaters. The Starfighter cast includes Ryan Gosling as Kade Auberon, with Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, Flynn Gray, and Amy Adams; the film is written by Jonathan Tropper and produced by Shawn Levy and Kathleen Kennedy, with Gosling, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Dave Filoni and Dan Levine serving as executive producers.
