Seahawks’ Darnold hip strain not expected to sideline long; IR not on the table yet

Sam Darnold is expected to miss only a short period after leaving Seattle’s Week 1 win with a hip injury; MRI found no fracture, and Tom Pelissero described it as an unusual hip strain with no clear timetable. The Seahawks have not ruled out injury reserve for now; if he goes to IR, he’d miss at least Week 7, but a sooner return is possible around early October. Drew Lock will start while Darnold recovers, with Jalen Milroe as the backup.

Seahawks’ safety depth tested after Thomas II hand surgery

Seattle’s safety depth is now shakier after Rodney Thomas II underwent hand surgery following Bud Clark’s season-altering broken ankle; with Nick Emmanwori also dealing with injuries and Thomas’s return uncertain, Seattle has relied on a three-safety rotation in the preseason and will look for Thomas to regain health for depth ahead of Week 1.
