"2024 Tech Layoffs Surge: Bay Area Hit Hard, Major Companies Slash Jobs"

Several hundred more tech jobs have been cut in the Bay Area, making January 2024 the worst month for high-tech staffing reductions in a year. PayPal, ChargePoint, Twitch, Discord, and Trove Recommerce are among the companies that have disclosed plans for job cuts, totaling 929 jobs. These layoffs are described as permanent, and the affected employees do not have the right to displace those with less seniority. The tech industry job cuts in the Bay Area for January 2024 amount to about one-sixth of the total tech industry job cuts in the region for all of 2023.
