'Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies' Celebrates Teen Friendship in Prequel Series
Paramount+’s Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, a prequel to the original Grease, aims to tackle sexism and racism in its 1950s setting while delivering infectious tunes, lovable characters, and sweet teen romance. While the show's brand of female empowerment is mostly satisfying, its handling of race is clumsy at best and cowardly at worst. The musical numbers are forgettable, but the series succeeds in portraying the joys of teen friendship and first love.
