EU rolls out standardized AI labels with stiff penalties for noncompliance

The European Union’s AI Act transparency rules took effect on August 2, requiring providers to explicitly notify users when they are interacting with AI and to label AI-generated or manipulated content with machine-readable marks; deployers must also label AI-generated media. Violations can trigger fines up to €15 million or 3% of global turnover, and there is a four-month grace period (until December 2) for pre-August models to comply. The EU has provided official AI disclosure labels to standardize labeling across platforms to improve user awareness and combat misinformation.
