Electric Vehicles Dominate European Car Market, Surpassing Diesel and Gasoline

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) have surpassed diesel vehicles in market share for the first time in the European Union, reaching 15.1% in June, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association. Gasoline remained the most popular choice, followed by hybrid-electric cars. Tesla recorded the highest growth with a 168% jump in vehicle registrations, while Volkswagen and Stellantis were the most popular automakers in the EU. The European Parliament's new law banning the sale of petrol and diesel vehicles from 2035 is part of efforts to combat climate change, but some countries are seeking to water down the legislation.
