EU Slaps Apple with Record $2 Billion Antitrust Fine Over Music-Streaming Apps

The European Commission fined Apple a record 1.84 billion euros ($2 billion) for antitrust violations related to its App Store restrictions on music streaming services, particularly Spotify, and its 30% App Store fees. The fine, which includes a deterrent lump sum, is the first of its kind and represents 0.5% of Apple's worldwide turnover. EU antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager ordered Apple to remove the anti-steering provisions and refrain from similar practices in the future. Apple plans to challenge the decision in court, while also facing a separate EU antitrust investigation regarding its tap-and-go mobile payment systems.
