French Regulator Fines Amazon $35 Million for Excessive Employee Surveillance

France's privacy watchdog fined Amazon's French warehouse business 32 million euros for using an "excessively intrusive system" to monitor worker performance, breaching EU privacy rules. The system, which tracks employees' every move using handheld barcode scanners, was deemed to put workers under continuous pressure and close surveillance. Amazon disagreed with the conclusions and reserved the right to file an appeal, stating that the system is necessary for safety, quality, and efficiency of operations.
