Google Settles Antitrust Lawsuit for $700 Million, Expands App Payment Options

Google has agreed to pay $700m in an antitrust settlement with US states and consumers, resolving accusations of overcharging and unlawful restrictions on app distribution and in-app transactions on Android devices. The settlement includes $630m for a consumer settlement fund and $70m for a fund to be used by states. Eligible consumers will receive at least $2, with additional payments based on their spending on Google Play. The settlement also allows for greater competition in the Play app store and offers alternative billing options for in-app purchases. The terms of the settlement still require final approval from a judge.
