California's New Strategy to Combat Rising Retail Theft

California Attorney General Rob Bonta has partnered with more than a dozen retailers and online marketplaces to combat organized retail crime in the state. The partnership includes Target, Albertsons, and Amazon, who have pledged to increase information sharing between law enforcement, retailers, and online marketplaces where stolen merchandise can be resold. The initiative targets organized retail crime, which has become a multibillion-dollar criminal enterprise, and not shoplifting, employee theft, or fraud. The Justice Department has also created an online portal where members of the public can submit complaints and tips about such crimes they may witness.
