Drowsy driving causes deadly crash at Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga.

The driver of the car that struck three Volkswagen employees, killing one and injuring two others, has been identified as Jason Wayne Thornton. He has been charged with vehicular homicide by recklessness, failure to operate with due care, reckless driving, felony reckless endangerment, and speeding. Thornton told police that he fell asleep while driving and did not recall what happened. Evidence at the scene showed that no braking occurred before the people were struck and the car had left the lane of travel about 400 feet before hitting the people. Volkswagen has canceled all production at its Chattanooga plant following the tragedy.
