Trump hints at allowing Chinese carmakers to build in the U.S.

Trump said on Fox News that he would be OK with Chinese automakers opening plants in the United States, as long as they hire American workers and don’t ship cars from Mexico. The comment comes amid pushback from lawmakers and automakers against Chinese vehicles, even as Biden-era rules ban Chinese passenger-vehicle sales and tariffs remain in place; Trump is set to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington in the coming weeks.
