Postal Employee Arrested for Stealing $1.7 Million in Mail

A United States Postal Service worker at the Friendship Post Office Station in Washington, D.C., is accused of stealing nearly $1.7 million from residents along an affluent neighborhood postal route. Court documents allege that the postal employee, Hachikosela Khose Muchimba, deposited misappropriated checks, including U.S. Treasury checks, into multiple bank accounts. Investigators believe Muchimba altered the checks and added his name and address before depositing them via mobile apps. A civil forfeiture filing ordered the seizure of $402,669.95 from one of the bank accounts believed to be operated by Muchimba. The investigation is ongoing, and Muchimba is referred to as a "former" postal service employee in the filings.
