Data Breach Exposes Personal Information of Almost 770,000 California Retirement Members

Almost 770,000 members of California's retirement agency, CalPERS, and the state teachers' retirement system had their personal information compromised in a data breach caused by a Russian ransomware gang known as Clop's. CalPERS has upped security measures, will offer credit monitoring and identity theft protection services, and has a newly dedicated call center to address concerns. The agency will no longer be sending additional information to the third-party contractor responsible for the breach. CalSTRS is also working to identify affected members and beneficiaries.
