Former Amazon Security Engineer Arrested for Hacking Crypto Exchange and Stealing $9M

A former security engineer at Amazon, Shakeeb Ahmed, has been arrested and charged with wire fraud and money laundering. Federal prosecutors allege that Ahmed used his hacking skills to steal $9 million from a cryptocurrency exchange and attempted to launder the stolen assets. He is accused of exploiting a vulnerability in the exchange's smart contract to generate illegitimate fees and using "flash loan" attacks to further exploit the platform. While it was initially unclear where Ahmed had worked, it has been confirmed that he was previously employed by Amazon. If convicted, Ahmed could face up to twenty years in prison for each charge.
