Massive Data Breach Exposes Millions of Patient Records from Welltok, Premier Health, and OSF

Welltok Inc., a software company contracted by Corewell Health and Priority Health in Michigan, experienced a cybersecurity breach affecting over 1 million Michiganders. The breach compromised personal information such as names, dates of birth, email addresses, phone numbers, medical diagnoses, health insurance information, and Social Security numbers. The attack also impacted nearly 8.5 million people nationally, including individuals associated with various healthcare companies. The breach went undetected for over two months and is the fourth-largest healthcare data breach in the US this year. Cybersecurity attacks in the healthcare sector have been on the rise, with data breaches more than doubling from 2019 to 2021.
