Regional banks lead US stock market gains while health care lags.
The S&P 500 struggled for direction as health care stocks slipped, but regional banking stocks rebounded. Financials were the top-performing sector, led by regional banks. Tech stocks were also higher, except for Apple, which continued to trade in the red after unveiling its Vision Pro headsets. Health stocks were pressured by a slump in Elevance Health, Merck, and Illumina. Boeing was also a big drag on the market, falling 2% after the aircraft maker said it would delay deliveries of its 737 Dreamliner jets. In crypto-related news, the SEC filed a lawsuit against Coinbase Global, accusing the cryptocurrency platform of breaking U.S. regulations, sending its shares more than 12% lower.
