CDC Links Ground Beef to Salmonella Outbreak in Multiple States

The CDC is investigating a salmonella outbreak that has led to at least 16 illnesses and six hospitalizations across multiple states. Nine patients reported eating ground beef, specifically 80% lean beef purchased at ShopRite locations in Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. The CDC warns that there may be more unreported cases. No recall has been issued yet. To prevent salmonella infections, the CDC advises cooking ground beef thoroughly, washing surfaces and utensils, and keeping raw meat separate from other foods. Salmonella infections can cause diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, with more severe symptoms in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
