Salmonella Outbreak from Ground Beef Sickens 16, Hospitalizes 6 in Multiple States

A salmonella outbreak linked to ground beef has sickened 16 people across four states, with six individuals requiring hospitalization, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The affected individuals reported consuming 80% lean ground beef purchased from ShopRite locations in Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. The CDC is currently investigating the source of the contaminated ground beef, and no recall has been issued yet. Symptoms of salmonella infection include fever, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. To prevent illness, the CDC advises cooking ground beef to an internal temperature of 160 degrees, practicing proper food handling and storage, and maintaining good hygiene practices.
