Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Cantaloupe Spreads Across the US

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has advised consumers to avoid eating pre-cut cantaloupe if they are unsure of its source, due to a growing outbreak of salmonella poisoning. At least 117 people in 34 U.S. states have been sickened, with 61 hospitalizations and two deaths reported. An additional 63 illnesses, 17 hospitalizations, and one death have been reported in Canada. Recalls of cantaloupes have been expanded to include various markets and stores. Health officials are urging caution and recommending that consumers throw away any cantaloupe if they cannot confirm it is not part of the recall.
