China’s Mega Car Recall Brings Hidden Door Handles Under Spotlight
China has ordered a recall of more than four million cars—nearly three million Teslas—over hidden door handles that can be hard to open if power fails; new 2027 rules ban such mechanisms and require mechanical inside/outside releases and clear opening instructions, with some vehicles getting software updates to lower windows in a crash. Xiaomi, XPeng and Geely are also affected, and safety experts warn the fixes may not fully address emergency access, suggesting recalls could spread beyond China.
