Walgreens Settles with San Francisco for $230 Million in Opioid Crisis Case.

Walgreens has agreed to pay San Francisco nearly $230 million as part of a historic opioid lawsuit settlement. The city will use the funds to address its worsening opioid crisis, which has claimed the lives of over 2,300 people since 2020. The settlement is the largest any city has ever received from a single company as a result of opioid litigation. Walgreens distributed over 100 million prescription opioid pills between 2006 and 2020 but did not do enough to prevent them from being used in illegal and harmful ways. The company disputes liability and did not admit any fault in the settlement agreement.
