Closure of Historic South City Hospital Marks the End of an Era

South City Hospital, formerly known as St. Alexius hospital, is set to close in south St. Louis. The hospital, founded in 1869, filed for bankruptcy in 2020. The new owners have not provided a specific closure date. The hospital gained historical significance as the site of the only documented exorcism in the United States, which inspired the book and movie "The Exorcist."
