UAW Strike Spreads to Stellantis Plants, Causing Layoffs and Disruption

The United Auto Workers union has expanded its strike to include the Stellantis Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan, which produces Ram 1500 pickup trucks. The work stoppage now involves approximately 6,800 workers. The union cited Stellantis' unfavorable proposals on wage progression, temporary worker pay, conversion to full-time, cost-of-living adjustments, and more. While the plant is crucial to Stellantis, the automaker is in a better position to weather the strike compared to General Motors and Ford Motor, as it has a healthier supply of Ram pickups. This brings the total number of UAW members on strike with Detroit automakers to over 40,000.
