Labor Department Recovers Over $1 Million in Unpaid Wages for Workers in Multiple States

Antonia's Pizzeria in Freeport, Maine, has been accused of failing to pay dozens of workers, allowing minors to work long hours, and falsifying timecards. The U.S. Department of Labor has recovered over $200,000 in back wages and damages for 36 employees. The investigation revealed that underage employees were performing hazardous tasks, and the pizzeria did not pay workers for all their hours or provide overtime compensation. The company also faced penalties for child labor and minimum wage violations. Workers were allegedly pressured not to cooperate with investigators. Antonia's Pizzeria will have to provide training to managers on labor laws and pay additional damages for retaliation against employees.
