USAF Renames Electronic Warfare Jets for Enhanced Attack Capability

The U.S. Air Force has changed the designation of its new electronic warfare jet from EC-37B to EA-37B, reflecting its roles and missions, which include attacking and destroying certain targets. The EA-37B is a heavily modified Gulfstream G550 business jet equipped with powerful active electronically scanned array (AESA) antennas that can send out focused beams of electromagnetic energy to damage enemy electronics. The Air Force plans to acquire 10 of these jets, replacing the EC-130H Compass Call aircraft. The EA-37B's capabilities are highly classified, but it is expected to have significant electronic warfare capabilities beyond traditional jamming.
