Family Dollar Founder and Philanthropist Leon Levine Passes Away at 85

Leon Levine, the founder of Family Dollar stores and a renowned philanthropist, has passed away at the age of 84. Levine opened the first Family Dollar store in Charlotte in 1959 and sold the company to Dollar Tree in 2014. He was also a major supporter of various charitable organizations in the Charlotte community, including the Levine Center for the Arts, Levine Cancer Institute, and Levine Children’s Hospital. Levine's legacy will continue through the numerous programs and facilities he supported, which have changed the course of care at Atrium Health.
