David Morales, a progressive candidate for Providence, Rhode Island mayor, is hosting a Brooklyn fundraiser to raise money for his insurgent bid against incumbent Brett Smiley, highlighting rent control and housing affordability. The event underscores New York City's central role in the national democratic socialist movement, with a wide slate of co-hosts from NYC-DSA and related circles. Morales trails in campaign cash but is gaining momentum through individual donors and high-profile support.
