AMD pledges £2B to supercharge UK AI research and sovereign compute

AMD is committing up to £2 billion over five years to accelerate AI innovation in the UK, funding advanced computing, scientific research and workforce development. It partners with Imperial College London and Oriole Networks to push AI, quantum and data-heavy research, and with Dell to bolster Cambridge’s Zenith AI and Sunrise fusion AI systems, using AMD Instinct GPUs, EPYC CPUs and ROCm software to expand the UK’s sovereign AI infrastructure for healthcare, climate modeling and other AI-for-science applications, in line with the UK AI Opportunities Action Plan and AI Hardware Strategy with government support.
