Data protection concerns lead to potential ChatGPT bans in Europe

Germany's commissioner for data protection, Ulrich Kelber, has said that Germany could block ChatGPT, the AI chatbot developed by OpenAI and backed by Microsoft, over data security concerns, similar to Italy's recent ban. Kelber said that Germany has requested further information from Italy on its ban. Privacy watchdogs in France and Ireland have also contacted the Italian data regulator to discuss its findings. OpenAI took ChatGPT offline in Italy on Friday after the national data agency banned the chatbot temporarily and launched an investigation into a suspected breach of privacy rules by the artificial intelligence application.
