Elon Musk is reportedly assembling a team to build an AI company to rival OpenAI, which he helped fund in its early days. Musk disagrees with OpenAI's pursuit of profits and their attempt to build ethical guardrails for AI. He has hired former DeepMind employee Igor Babuschkin and other engineers to begin work and is contacting investors to fund the company. However, building and operating a modern AI company is no easy feat, and OpenAI has years of trial and error and billions in funding behind it. Musk's publicly callous and capricious approach to management could also deter AI experts from joining his company.
