Italy Bans ChatGPT Due to Privacy Breach Concerns

Italy's privacy watchdog has temporarily banned ChatGPT, the popular chatbot developed by OpenAI, due to concerns about a recent data breach and the legal basis for using personal data to train the AI system. The Italian Data Protection Authority has imposed an "immediate temporary limitation on the processing of Italian users' data" until ChatGPT respects privacy. The ban came days after more than 1,000 AI experts called for a pause in the creation of "giant" AIs for at least six months. OpenAI must report to the watchdog within 20 days on what measures it has taken on ensuring the privacy of users' data or face a fine of up to €20m or 4% of annual global revenue.
