Meta Platforms unveiled details about its new in-house artificial intelligence accelerator chip, "Artemis," designed to reduce reliance on Nvidia's AI chips and lower energy costs. The Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) chip, produced by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, offers three times the performance of its predecessor and is already deployed in data centers to serve AI applications. Meta's broader custom silicon effort includes significant investments in software development to maximize infrastructure efficiency.
