Meta has become the second-most active chopper of big tech firms after Twitter, with a 24% reduction in its workforce. The company has announced two rounds of layoffs, amounting to 21,000 job cuts, and is reportedly undergoing a third round. Other tech firms, including Amazon, have also gone through multiple rounds of layoffs. The job cuts were attributed to over-hiring during the pandemic, and revenue per employee dropped at many of the major tech firms now chopping jobs.
