Microsoft fined $20 million by FTC for Xbox data storage.

Microsoft has agreed to pay a $20 million fine to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for collecting personal information on Xbox players under the age of 13 and not properly informing parents. The FTC alleges that Microsoft stored information from 2015 until 2020 on around 10 million people, including children, who started to create accounts and gave some information but never completed the process. Microsoft has indicated that the issue was unintentional and referred to the storing of information on users who didn’t complete the gamertag sign-up process as “a data retention glitch found in our system.”
