Navigating the Impact of AI on Human Workers

A recent study by MIT economists found that incorporating AI into workflows can make workers more productive, with customer service representatives becoming 14% more productive on average. However, the study also highlights the potential for AI to exacerbate income inequality, as less experienced and lower-skilled workers saw the most significant gains, while highly skilled workers saw little or no benefit. The study suggests that AI could have a different effect on the labor market than previous waves of technological change, potentially reducing inequality by improving the know-how and smarts of low performers, but also possibly reducing the wage premium of experienced workers.
