Snapchat influencer Caryn Marjorie has created an AI version of herself called CarynAI, which is a voice-based chatbot that bills itself as a virtual girlfriend. The bot uses the latest AI technology and thousands of hours of recordings of the real Marjorie to create a voice and personality close enough to that of human Marjorie that people are willing to pay $1 per minute for a relationship with the bot. CarynAI has already generated $71,610 in revenue from her 99% male partners during beta testing. However, the technology raises ethical questions about its impact on society, users, and Marjorie herself.
