Tech Giants Unite to Challenge EU's Digital Antitrust Rules and Gatekeeper Status

TikTok's owner ByteDance and Meta (formerly Facebook) have filed legal challenges against the European Commission's new enforcement regime for digital competition. They argue that their services have been wrongly labeled and targeted under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Other tech giants, including Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft, may also challenge the new rules. These companies have until November 16 to file their legal paperwork. The designated "gatekeeper" companies can ask the EU's General Court to cancel individual decisions or file appeals on the Commission's probes. However, experts suggest that challenging the Commission may not be in the companies' best interest as they navigate compliance negotiations.
