The Impact of AI on Jobs and Gender Equality

According to a study published by the United Nations' International Labour Organization (ILO), generative artificial intelligence (AI) is unlikely to replace humans in most jobs. However, the study suggests that women may be disproportionately affected by AI automation, with an estimated 7.8% of jobs held by women in high-income countries potentially being affected. This is due to women's over-representation in clerical work. The study emphasizes the need for policymakers to address the socioeconomic impacts of AI and regulate its use to mitigate potential job losses. Another study by the McKinsey Global Institute also found that women are more likely to lose their jobs due to AI, with office support and customer service positions being particularly at risk.
