Facebook's parent company, Meta, is facing a deadline of August 25 for users to apply for a share of the $725 million privacy settlement. The settlement is in response to a lawsuit alleging that Facebook allowed users' personal information to be accessed by Cambridge Analytica, which used the data to target U.S. voters. Despite denying any wrongdoing, Meta agreed to the settlement. Users who used Facebook between May 24, 2007, and December 22, 2022, are eligible to apply for a portion of the settlement. The final settlement hearing is scheduled for September 7, and payments will be distributed after that date.
