TSMC Commits $100 Million to Arm Holdings' IPO

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world's largest contract chipmaker, has approved an investment of up to $100 million in Arm's initial public offering (IPO). Arm, a British semiconductor designer owned by Softbank, is set to go public this week and is expected to generate nearly $5 billion in fresh funds, valuing the company at over $50 billion. TSMC's investment is based on the final share price at IPO, and other technology companies, including Nvidia and Apple, have also expressed interest in purchasing shares. Arm designs the chip architecture used in 99% of the world's smartphone processors, and TSMC is a major manufacturer of semiconductors based on Arm's architecture.
