Walmart and Wing Scale Up Drone Delivery With 7 More U.S. Metro Areas

Walmart and Alphabet’s Wing are expanding their drone-delivery network with seven new U.S. metro areas—Memphis, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Salt Lake City—as part of a plan to reach about 270 locations. Wing says its drones can travel up to 60 mph and drop packages into customers’ yards in about 30 minutes via a tether, with the service appearing in Walmart’s app or Wing’s app once in range. The expansion builds on existing markets like Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston, and Atlanta and follows more than a million commercial deliveries, signaling drone delivery is moving from trial to regular last-mile service with a goal to reach roughly 40 million U.S. residents.
