IBX renderings paint a modern, accessible Brooklyn–Queens light-rail link

New renderings of the Interborough Express (IBX) show a mostly above-ground, modern light-rail line between Brooklyn and Queens with 18 stations, elevators, wider fare gates, digital signage, and improved accessibility. The line would cut end-to-end travel to about 32 minutes and connect to 17 subway lines, with service targeted for the 2030s. Four existing stations will get accessibility upgrades (Junius Street and Livonia Avenue by end of 2026; Broadway Junction by end of 2027; Avenue I by early 2028; Wilson Avenue by mid‑2027). An Environmental Impact Statement will be released this fall, triggering public meetings, while funding remains partly secure and subject to federal political dynamics around congestion pricing and the Gateway project.
