Waymo expands robotaxi coverage in San Francisco and Phoenix.

Waymo is expanding its robotaxi service areas in Phoenix and San Francisco, with its autonomous Jaguar I-PACE vehicles now covering a total of 180 square miles in Phoenix and the entire peninsula in San Francisco. Waymo's Phoenix map has grown four times the size of the area it served when it first launched its ride-hailing operation in 2020. The company hopes to eventually begin charging for rides in San Francisco once it has secured a permit to do so from the California Public Utilities Commission. However, city officials in San Francisco have raised concerns about the rising number of driverless vehicles on their roads.
